Children's Museum of New Hampshire
6 Washington Street
Dover NH

Children are invited to bring their favorite stuffed animal friends to the annual Teddy Bear Clinic at the Children's Museum of NH.

The clinic is set up like miniature hospital and is designed to let kids take on the role of parents as they accompany their stuffed animal through a health visit. Experiencing this process may help children feel more confident and less scared during their next visit to the doctor or hospital.
Volunteer health professionals affiliated with Portsmouth Regional Hospital will be on hand with museum staff to register each animal, issue plastic ID bracelets, perform check-ups, and share information about healthy eating and exercise. There is also a surgical area where volunteers can sew up minor tears, wrap bandages and apply band-aids where needed. At the end of the appointment, each child and their animal will receive a certificate of good health to take home.
A tea party for children and their furry guests will follow the Teddy Bear Clinic from 12-12:30 pm inside the museum. There will be fresh fruit from Fiddlehead Farms Marketplace, organic milk and yogurt provided by Stonyfield, animal crackers, juice and water for all.

All Teddy Bear Clinic and Tea Party activities are included with paid admission to the museum.

Teen Beach MovieSeptember 14  2pm

Teen Beach Movie centers around two teen surfers, Brady and Mackenzie, who are magically transported into a 1960s beach movie where they must try to blend in until they can find their way out. They soon discover that there is an intense rivalry between the local surfers and bikers. Things don't go according to plan when our modern-day duo accidently change the plot of the movie, and the two lead characters fall for them instead of each other! As everyone around them starts singing and dancing, and a fight between the bikers and surfers breaks out, Brady and Mack must attempt to get out of the movie and back to present day.

The Great Gatsby
September 21  2pm

The Great Gatsby follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin Daisy and her philandering, blue-blooded husband Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

SOUTHERN NH

Teen Independent Project
Ages 13+

Research, collaborate, present!
1st and 3rd Fridays, beginning Friday September 6th, 11am-1:30pm at my home in Chester

(We will not meet April 25th),

Please take the time to watch the following 15 minute video to get acquainted with how this program originated and was applied in a public school. We are going to be doing our own version.

Basic format: Starting at the second meeting, give a presentation answering your Individual Question, discuss what your next question will be, then use the rest of the meeting time to work together on the Collective Endeavor.

Individual Question - It can be anything you are interested in working on as long as it falls under the two month period subject area. At home you work on answering it, then present the answer to the rest of the group at the next meeting.

Here are the subject areas and time frame:
Sept/Oct – Natural Sciences
Nov/Dec – Literary Arts
Jan/Feb – Mathematical Arts
Mar/April – Social Sciences
May – No Individual Question, use the time to finish up on your Collective Endeavor

Don't let the subject areas freak you out! I know you all are wondering about the Mathematical Arts one. If we get to January and I haven't gotten through to you on how to have fun with that one, the topic area can be changed ;-)

Collective Endeavor – A unanimously chosen group project. You will work on one project for the fall with a presentation for parents on December 20th and you will work on another for the Spring session with a presentation on May 23rd. Your first endeavor can be anything the group can agree to work on and it must be unanimous. The second endeavor must have a service oriented goal. During the course of the projects you may need to get together at other times to work more on them. It will depend on the project you choose. If this is the case, arrangements will be made allowing for this according to what works with everyone's schedules.

I will be there to facilitate, make sure things stay on track and offer any assistance I can regarding resources and professional advisement, if needed, through my own contacts. If I don't know someone who has expertise in the area they may need help in, I will do what I can to help them find someone.

Individual Endeavor – You will each work on anything you choose and work on it all year long on your own, sharing your progress as you go along. The idea is to pick ANYTHING and develop your passion in this area. You will also present the culmination of your efforts on May23rd.
